What can I expect on a BALANCE HOLIDAYS retreat?

You can expect to explore the most high-end retreats, in memorable and tranquil places, which are all unique in terms of location, design & architecture and the wellbeing programmes designed for you. We work with all partners to create a unique and effective programme offering for guests. Savour delicious farm-to-table food daily, be with nature, explore the beautiful surroundings of the destinations we have chosen for you. Our retreats are not about deprivation. They offer a wide range of life-enhancing activities as we want to help our guests create and maintain a balanced and fulfilled lifestyle by providing the tools for re-learning, self-care, mindfulness and cleaner healthier living.

 

How do I pick which retreats to go on?

Explore by Retreat Type or Where to Go to see our current selection and trust your instincts. We travel to all corners of Europe and confining Countries to look for the ideal destinations easily reachable from London and other main European cities. The idea is that you do not need to travel to the other corner of the world to reconnect.

What’s Included?

Please refer to the What’s Included section of each retreat programme for more details. The Overview of each programme is also very detailed.

Typically, we include:

  • Stunning accommodations with options for single or double occupancy
  • Delicious and healthy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, all with an emphasis on ingredients local to the region
  • Filtered water, coffee, tea and juices
  • Daily fitness classes or activities such as biking, hiking, yoga, Pilates, body sculpting
  • Daily guided meditation and restorative yoga
  • Workshops on various life-enhancing topics
  • Cultural and/or ecological excursions specific to the region such as exploring ancient ruins and visiting local gardens
  • Spa treatments with selected programmes
  • Entertainment such as participating in a cooking class
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Some programmes will include airport pick-up/drop-off or airport shuttle. If not, in most cases we can provide you with the contact details of a driver that at a preferred rate for Balance Holidays (excluded from the price of the programme) can drive you to the retreat location.
  • Taxes

 

One of the activities/workshops/class has changed or is no longer part of the programme. Can I get compensation?

In the instance an activity/workshop/class has to be removed from the programme, replaced or postponed to a different day, no compensation of any kind or responsibility can be taken as some circumstances are beyond our control. A circumstance beyond our or our supplier’s control is one that cannot be foreseen or avoided even after taking all due care and includes but is not limited to bad weather situations or forecasts. Can I go on a retreat by myself?

Absolutely! If you’re travelling alone, a retreat is the best way to meet new people with similar interests in a safe and healthy environment. At Balance Holidays, we value the “tribe” factor because when an experience is shared collectively, we not only deepen connections within ourselves, but we connect to those around us. When we are connected with ourselves and with others, our emotional, mental and physical health increases.

 

How many people will be on the retreats?

Balance Holidays prides itself on offering personalised care and attention to all who visit. Our group size depends on which trip you join. They reflect our desire to be small and intimate and to have a good teacher to student ratio while keeping in mind the joy and community that comes from a certain size group. The trips generally range from 6-10 guests.

 

Do I need to be of a certain fitness level to join a Balance Holidays retreat?

Balance Holidays welcomes everyone, regardless of the level they’re starting at. Whether you are beginning your wellness journey or someone with a highly developed understanding of your own physical and emotional wellbeing, all of our programmes are customised to ensure they are accessible for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. You can choose the intensity of the fitness activity, and yoga poses can be modified under the attentive eye of our teachers. Our retreats offer opportunities for growth and a new experience, no matter how much time you have spent on a bike or a mat. Regardless, we suggest keeping an open mind and trying out practices that might be new to you.

The yoga instructors hosting our retreats have the ability to engage everyone, from novice to advanced practitioner/teacher every level is catered to. Our instructors are experts at teaching multi-level classes where beginners are given the guidance they need to flourish and learn from this ancient yet relevant practice. It, therefore, does not matter whether you have never sat down on a yoga mat before or not.

We do not advocate nor imply that our retreats or any activities we provide during your stay, is a substitute for medical care or treatment. Should you have any concerns about the impact of the retreat or any of the yoga or meditation session will have on your physical or mental health, please consult with your Physician or local General Practitioner before booking. As mentioned in our terms and conditions, please declare any health conditions during the sign-up process.

 

What happens if I sustain an injury during one of the yoga classes, physical activities or treatments on a retreat?

When it comes down to yoga, depending on the complexity of the pose, you must first identify whether the pain you feel is, in fact, due to temporary muscle soreness. When you step into a yoga class, besides following through with every instruction, you must listen to your body. If a yoga pose is too intense for you, tell the teacher.

By agreeing to come on our retreat and accepting our terms and conditions, you are acknowledging that you have voluntarily chosen to participate in physical exercise activities during the retreat. By signing up to the retreat, you assume all risk for your health and wellbeing, and fully release any responsibility, cost or damages to Balance holidays, its instructors, members and employees. It is a condition of our contract with you that you and all members of your party have suitable and comprehensive travel insurance to cover your holiday as our suppliers nor we can be held responsible for any liability, expenses or losses you incur as a result of being inadequately insured. Are your yoga teachers insured?

Yes, all partners we work with at Balance Holidays are insured under General Liability/Master Insurance Policy.

 

What food can I expect?

We are obsessed with delicious food. After all, our founder is Italian. We strive to include organic, fresh seasonal ingredients. Often, they are grown by the estate owners where the retreat is hosted. We offer full board on all our retreat programmes as outlined in the trip description and often recommend our partner to hire exceptional chefs that can teach our guests how to prepare a delicious, balanced meal and take this experience back home.

Please let us know as soon as you sign up for the trip or before you sign up if you have any special dietary requirements; food allergies or intolerances.

 

What should I bring?

Generally, you should bring comfortable clothes and shoes, a bathing suit, sunglasses and sunscreen, a journal, a reusable water bottle, and a big smile!

If applicable, The What to Pack section at the bottom of each programme page will list any additional items to bring.

 

How much free time do we have and do I have to participate in all activities?

Our retreats include a healthy balance between group activities and solo free time to relax, read a book, take a walk, etc. Days with outings planned will mean the intensity of other activities will be lighter. We encourage full participation in order to get the most out of our programmes, but there is no obligation. Should you wish to take an afternoon off and simply enjoy some time relaxing by the pool, please be our guest!

 

Does each Balance Holidays retreat have Wi-Fi?

Many guests come on a retreat with Balance Holidays to enjoy a digital detox. The majority of our retreats are located in the countryside. Therefore, mobile phone coverage is limited. In most cases, there is a Wi-Fi connection in the main house, the dining areas and the bedrooms, where you will be able to check emails or attend to any urgent matters. The usage of mobiles phones throughout each retreat is subject to personal preference. However, we do recommend limiting the daily use to a handful of minutes in order to enhance the benefits of each experience, reconnecting with yourself and other likeminded individuals and the beautiful surroundings of the location during this short break.

 

Can I arrive early and stay late?

You will need to purchase your flights in order to arrive/depart by the stated dates and time ranges of your specific trip. If you choose to arrive earlier or leave later than given day/time, you will be responsible for the cost of transportation needed to join the group. We always encourage you to explore the area if that option is available to you. At some locations, you will be able to arrive early or stay late at the venue, while at other locations you will need to find other forms of accommodation to facilitate an extended stay.

 

Do I need to book my own flight?

You are responsible for booking your own flights and the cost is not included in the programme.

Each trip will have suggested arrival and departure details.

When transportation is included, please let us know your expected arrival and departure dates with flight or train numbers.

 

What else is not included in a BH retreat?

  • Alcohol/wine with dinner (although some retreats may provide a complimentary glass of wine)
  • Additional treatments
  • Optional gratuities for villa or hotel staff

 

Can we drink alcohol on a BH retreat?

Alcohol is not included in the retreat price, but at the same time not forbidden. We are about Balance, and believe that a nice glass of red wine with your evening meal is one of the healthiest habits one should pick up to live long! (Livia’s great grandmother died at almost 100 years having one every single evening of her life).

A lot of our retreats are in beautiful wine regions and cultivate grapes themselves. When this is the case, we make sure to include a wine tasting in the programme.

 

What is the accepted currency at the retreats? How much cash will I need?

All of the activities highlighted on the programme page are included in the price. However, there will be the possibility to purchase some extras, be it that extra treatment you want to try or that optional horseback-riding excursion. Any additional costs incurred from purchasing extra activities will be your sole responsibility. The accepted currency will be the local currency of the country you will be travelling to.
