Abound in an evergreen that meets an infinite blue upon a cliff top. Unite with all forms of nature, freeing the mind, suspended in stillness on the Revitalise at Aeolian Island Retreat.

Labelled as “the green island” amongst its seven sisters in the Aeolian Islands archipelago. Salina’s fertile land and rising green peaks create a sensational setting for finding a moment to slow down, be still and leave responsibilities idle. Each day, wake, breathe and grow familiar with yourself through dynamic postures in morning Vinyasa Flow Yoga, with our expert Edina Filip. Deepen inner-exploration synchronised to your breath, in evening Yin Yoga and Pranayama under the clear light and besides the glazed waters.

Open the ears to the soundtracks of nature, nurturing sensitivity towards your body and mind in daily outdoor excursions. Trek up an extinct volcano to be rewarded with a subliminal sight. Trail across the flourishing countryside planted with fragrant chestnut trees and olive groves before exploring Aeolian Island’s cultural pastime in an uphill hike. A foraging workshop and a voyage of Salina Island to venture into the natural wonders of the island are also included in this programme. Explore the traditional craft that goes into making Modica chocolates with a resident chef and take a tour of the estate’s ancient vineyard. Followed with a wine-tasting of the home-cultivated and region-wide famed, Malvasia wine amongst several others. On a separate evening, enjoy a traditional Sicilian dinner witnessing an ethereal sunset.

The resplendent beauty of nature is also extended into the cuisine. Inspired by the concept of “zero-kilometre” cooking. The estate’s vegetable gardens will provide 70% of the ingredients to prepare meals from a menu, specially designed by Balance Holidays. Where traditional recipes, rooted in rich and profound gastronomic history and original creations, will be brought together with the knowledge of local ingredients and the principles of healthy eating.

Restore a loving relationship with yourself through Mother Nature, in the chalk white stoned estate Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. Watching over the tended green vineyards and chestnut trees, that look out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Spacious, open terrace paired with sleek white interiors and vast windows keep the outdoors close. A prime destination to distant from a contained and digitally connected world, gently steering you onto a new path of wellbeing.

The Expert

Edina Filip

From a young age, moving and experimenting with her body has always been an exciting idea to Edina Filip. She engaged in the likes of running to classical dance and artistic gymnastics. However, it was when Edina took her first yoga class in 2004 that she felt immediate amazement at the personal benefits experienced and being able to connect different aspects of life through conscious attention. Her curiosity prompted her to carry out her own research and studies and finally, in 2009 she attended her first 200hr TTC in Woodbourne, New York. In 2010, she opened her own Yoga center, "Yogalife" which eventually in 2013 became “JothYoga” after she was joined by other prominent yoga teachers and formed an association. Edina continues to extend her studies into different tools to achieve life-balance and connect the mind, body, and heart. She is a nature-lover and will integrate this element into postures, breath-work, mindfulness and introspection to help individuals activate a deeper connection with their selves.

Venue

Sophistication of simplicity is a distinctive characteristic here at Salina. Shaped in cuboids, riddled in history, the rooms at Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia are unique in their own rights but share similarities through the surreal garden and sea-facing views.

Room Types

Standard

Located in the main estate with independent access, measuring 15 to 20sqm, enjoy privacy without feeling isolated in the Standard Room at Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. With a private terrace offering generous glimpses of the gardens and sea, do not let four walls and a door restrict you from the aromatic plantations and the light hums of the wind and wildlife. Each room is dressed in powder-white stone floors and walls while furniture are kept neutral but still add depth and texture. Beds are spacious, guaranteeing a restful sleep while toiletries are provided in reusable glass bottles, a prompting effort towards sustainability. Amenities include a shower, bathroom, a kettle and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Superior

Measuring 18 to 26sqm with independent access, the Superior room looks out towards the historic Anfiteatro Vineyard and sea through the private terrace. The surrounding colours, scents and sounds will feed into the rooms, adding natural vibrancy and character to each stay. Keep cool under the shade and admire the sweeping views accompanied with a newly developed set of thoughts and perspectives. Settle into a comfortable sleep in a generously sized bed, under crisp white linen. Toiletries are included and will be provided in reusable glass bottles, a nod towards sustainability. Amenities include a shower, bathroom, a kettle and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Food and Cuisine

Passion for good food is unmistakable in the kitchens of Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. The chef is ambitious and unafraid of exploring creative capacities with ingredients, of which 70% are sourced from the estate gardens. Bringing together traditional gastronomic lessons from Sicilian and Neapolitan homes, wheat used for pasta, bread and all other yeast products is produced in the Tasca family home, Regaleali, using stoneground flour made with the ancient grain Senatore Cappelli. The extra virgin olive oil is also made with olives harvested in the Regaleali and Capofaro estates.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

Your health and safety have and will continue to take central priority in everything we do. For this retreat, Balance Holidays and Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia have worked together to introduce and adopt heightened levels of health and safety vigilance and measures guided by local health authorities, WHO (World Health Organisation) and CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) above their existing stringent standards. The objective is to provide a safe, comfortable and high-quality experience as expected from us. We also have an individual Revitalise at Aeolian Island Retreat determined Health & Safety protocol in place. If you wish to learn more, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Otherwise, please refer to our Terms and Conditions or Covid-19 Update.

Location

Situated North of Sicily as one of seven Aeolian Islands, Salina is the second largest and greenest island in the archipelago. This once-active volcanic island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the twin volcanoes, Monte de Porri and Monte Fossa delle Felci sculpting a distinctive shape and texture to the terrain. Unlike its sister islands, emerald greenery and jewel blue waters are signature elements, embodied by Salina in this untouched corner of Italy. Fertile pastures carpet the island with grapevines, hills and wild woodland blooms. While the attractive bougainvillea plant, native to the land, adds punches of colour. Clamber up to the cliff tops to capture a full, unobstructed view or amble through the thin-crowded villages to blend in with the local community. These surroundings will demand full attention, infecting even the most docile of individuals to go out and explore!
