We love it for

Extinct Volcano hike, Chocolate of Modica Workshop, Ancient grapevines

Available on-demand as a private retreat between May and September

Ideal for 4 or more guests

Abound in evergreen that meets an infinite blue upon a cliff top, the chalk white stoned estate that rises from its luxuriant surroundings is Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. With exquisite views bathing under the warm, ruddy sunshine, free yourself to the mellow and mind-easing atmosphere on the Revitalise at Aeolian Island Retreat in Salina, Sicily.

Labelled as “the green island” amongst its seven sisters in the Aeolian Islands archipelago, Salina’s fertile land and rising green peaks create a sensational setting for finding a moment to slow down, be still and leave responsibilities idle. Each day, wake, breathe and grow familiar with the surroundings through dynamic postures in morning Vinyasa Flow Yoga with our expert Edina Filip.

Open the ears to the natural hubbub of nature and establish sensitivity towards your body and mind, restoring a loving relationship with Earth and yourself. Be present in daily outdoor excursions clambering up the extinct volcano, trailing across the flourishing countryside planted with fragrant chestnut trees and olive groves before exploring Aeolian’s pastime, uphill with the native flora and fauna. These excursions plus a foraging workshop and a voyage of the Salina Island are all included as part of this exclusive programme designed by Balance Holidays. Other activities include a Chocolate of Modica workshop and a tour of the estate’s ancient vineyard followed with wine tasting of the home-cultivated Malvasia wine among several others. Concluding the evenings will be a session of Yin Yoga.

The resplendent beauty of nature is also extended into the cuisine. Inspired by the concept of “zero-kilometre” cooking, the estate’s vegetable gardens will provide 70% of the ingredients to prepare meals from a nourishing menu, specially designed by Balance Holidays. The wheat used to make the bread and pasta is grown in the Tasca family home, Regaleali, as are the olives for the extra virgin olive oil. Each day, the chef will present a sapient mix of textures, flavours and colours, influencing guests with the idea that meals can be a source of pleasure as well as sustenance. On a separate evening, enjoy a traditional Sicilian dinner witnessing an ethereal sunset.

Let the yearning inner voice and any suppressed thoughts and emotions run free with the chipper wildlife in Salina, Sicily. Learn to become more loving, compassionate and kind by identifying and focusing on the beauty within us and around us on the Revitalise at Aeolian Island Retreat.

The Expert

Edina Filip

From a young age, moving and experimenting with her body has always been an exciting idea to Edina Filip. She engaged in the likes of running to classical dance and artistic gymnastics. However, it was when Edina took her first yoga class in 2004 that she felt immediate amazement at the personal benefits experienced and being able to connect different aspects of life through conscious attention. Her curiosity prompted her to carry out her own research and studies and finally, in 2009 she attended her first 200hr TTC in Woodbourne, New York. In 2010, she opened her own Yoga center, "Yogalife" which eventually in 2013 became “JothYoga” after she was joined by other prominent yoga teachers and formed an association. Edina continues to extend her studies into different tools to achieve life-balance and connect the mind, body, and heart. She is a nature-lover and will integrate this element into postures, breath-work, mindfulness and introspection to help individuals activate a deeper connection with their selves.

Sophistication of simplicity is a distinctive characteristic here at Salina. Shaped in cuboids, riddled in history, the rooms at Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia are unique in their own rights but share similarities through the surreal garden and sea-facing views.

Room Types

Located in the main estate with independent access, measuring 15 to 20sqm, enjoy privacy without feeling isolated in the Standard Room at Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. Beds are spacious, guaranteeing a restful sleep while toiletries are provided in reusable glass bottles, a prompting effort towards sustainability. Amenities include a shower, bathroom, a kettle and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Measuring 18 to 26sqm with independent access, the Superior room looks out towards the historic Anfiteatro Vineyard and sea through the private terrace. Keep cool under the shade and admire the sweeping views accompanied with a newly developed set of thoughts and perspectives. Settle into a comfortable sleep in a generously sized bed, under crisp white linen. Toiletries are included and will be provided in reusable glass bottles, a nod towards sustainability. Amenities include a shower, bathroom, a kettle and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Food and Cuisine

Passion for good food is unmistakable in the kitchens of Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia. The chef is ambitious and unafraid of exploring creative capacities with ingredients, of which 70% are sourced from the estate gardens. Bringing together traditional gastronomic lessons from Sicilian and Neapolitan homes, wheat used for pasta, bread and all other yeast products is produced in the Tasca family home, Regaleali, using stoneground flour made with the ancient grain Senatore Cappelli. The extra virgin olive oil is also made with olives harvested in the Regaleali and Capofaro estates.

Health, Safety and Hygiene

Your health and safety have and will continue to take central priority in everything we do. For this retreat, Balance Holidays and Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia have worked together to introduce and adopt heightened levels of health and safety vigilance and measures guided by local health authorities, WHO (World Health Organisation) and CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) above their existing stringent standards. The objective is to provide a safe, comfortable and high-quality experience as expected from us. We also have an individual Revitalise at Aeolian Island Retreat determined Health & Safety protocol in place. If you wish to learn more, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you. Otherwise, please refer to our Terms and Conditions or Covid-19 Update.

The Ambience

Unlike its sister islands in archipelago, Salina encompasses the green lands and blue sea into a truly divine combination, ideal for escaping the crowds and city clamour. Grapevines stretch on the lush, verdant hills, wild woodland blooms and attractive bougainvillea paint the land with colour. Clamber up to the cliff tops to capture a full, unobstructed view or amble through the somnolent villages to blend in with the local community. These surroundings will demand full attention, infecting even the most docile of individuals to go out and explore!

Situated North of Sicily as one of seven Aeolian Islands, Salina is the second largest island in the archipelago. This once-active volcanic island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the twin volcanoes, Monte de Porri and Monte Fossa delle Felci now giving shape and texture to the terrain but more importantly, a reason to visit this delightful destination.
