Entirely tailored Private Retreats are now available. EXPLORE

Paris ticks many boxes when it comes to a destination for travel. Culturally significant and endlessly decadent, La Ville-Lumière is known for its exquisite architecture and beautiful cuisine. But as much as a city break can be an enjoyable experience, the chaos of airports, checking into hotels and finding your way around can leave you feeling somewhat exhausted despite the holiday. It is for this reason that we recommend spending some time away from the fast pace of urban life and partake in a relaxing activity or two.

Walk Through Coulée Verte

This beautiful park was created in 1988 by Philippe Mathieux and Jacques Vergely, on a former railway line that linked Place de la Bastille to Varenne-Saint-Maur, from 1859. There is a blend of wild vegetation and modern landscaped areas. The park is around five kilometres long, beginning at Opéra Bastille, and features luscious trees and fragrant blooms. The walk through the promenade allows you to immerse yourself in the abundant greenery. There are also extraordinary views of both modern and traditional parts of the 12th arrondissement. This is a peaceful and tranquil experience; you can take a leisurely stroll and then stop for a picnic, like a true Parisian. Pack with you some cheese, wine and a baguette for an authentic experience.

Take a Cruise on the Seine

Taking a cruise is the best way to avoid the rush of crowds in the streets of Paris. As you smoothly sail down the River Seine, you will get a glimpse of the city’s most famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral. The river Seine flows right through the heart of Paris, bordering ten of the twenty arrondissements. You will find thirty-two bridges along the river, and some of the designs are extraordinary. There are plenty of different cruise companies that operate on this stunning stretch of water, and each offers you an activity where you can relax and unwind.

Watch the Sunset Over the City from Montparnasse Tower

Watching the sunset over a city is mesmerising. Seeing the pinks and oranges slowly fade away evokes serenity and creates a soul-soothing atmosphere. As the sky darkens and the nightlife is awoken, you get to admire the renowned “City of Lights”. The Montparnasse Tower is a prime destination to watch the sunset over Paris; with views of some of the most iconic sights, including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc De Triomphe. If you arrive early, you can upgrade your ticket and enjoy this remarkable experience with a glass of champagne.

Visit Bois De Vincennes

This botanical garden is located on the edge of the 12th arrondissement in Paris and is a haven for wildlife. To tourists, this glorious park remains relatively unknown, making it a peaceful setting for a relaxing day. You may wish to enjoy a boat ride on the lake while taking in the surrounding greenery. The Parc Floral is a mixture of flower beds, ponds, picnic areas and playgrounds. This is a great spot to relax, especially in the summer months when the open-air theatre holds free music and theatre performances. If you don’t fancy walking around the grounds, you can rent bikes and take a leisurely ride around.

Visit a Bookshop

Paris is renowned for its quaint and quirky bookshops. Discover a hidden treasure or your new favourite writer by spending some time browsing the curious shelves. A beautiful and iconic example of a Parisian Librairie is Shakespeare and Company. The delightful shop has been intricately and thoughtfully decorated, and houses both English and French language books. Since the shops opening in 1951, it has become a hub for readers and writers. In its long years, it has hosted famed literary intellectuals from Allen Ginsberg to Will Self and Kate Tempest, and continues to hose weekly literary festivals featuring emerging modern writers.
