Il Borro Relais, Tuscany, Italy
Take a step back from routine and reimagine your wellbeing in a spectacular corner of Tuscany on the Restore at Authentic Tuscan Retreat. Backed by beautiful landscape, complete with vineyards, native Cypress trees and dense forestry, take it slow and enjoy a deserving moment of rest this September.
Begin each day with an open heart and mind in Dynamic Odaka Flow Yoga with our expert, Melania de Masi. Overlooking the flourishing gardens and medieval village, be guided on a series of gentle and energising movements and poses, carving space for open dialogue, freely exploring emotions and confronting fears. Clear the mind and slow down in the evenings with Yin Yoga and Pranayama classes as well as two dedicated mindfulness workshops.
Appreciate spreads of colour exploring the Tuscan countryside on two dynamic mountain E-bike excursions. One of these will end with truffle hunting and tasting as later summer marks the beginning of the truffle hunt season, a noble gift of Mother Nature. Additionally, enjoy a sunset horseback ride around the property’s bridges and streams.
The flavours of Tuscany are not to be ignored. Learn to choose seasonal and relevant ingredients before being shown how to cook these together using traditional Tuscan recipes. For this retreat, a delicious taste of Tuscany menu is specially designed by Balance Holidays and the chefs, using ingredients sourced from the certified organic Il Borro gardens. Additionally, visit and enjoy a guided wine tasting session in the property’s wine cellars, which is one of the oldest in Italy where the very first Chianti wine was produced. Unfold the art of winemaking and taste the region-famed fine wines for a complete taste of Tuscany!
During free time, rest by the pool or at the spa. The programme includes a complimentary spa treatment inclusive of a massage specifically designed for Balance Holidays’ guests, utilising the extra virgin olive oil produced by the estate. It also includes two dedicated mindfulness workshops.
Throughout this retreat, stay at the exceptional property of Il Borro. Melania is an enthusiastic Odaka yoga teacher with a contemporary and innovative style that is popular in Japan and incorporates martial arts, Zen and traditional yoga postures. She trained directly under its founder and holds a diploma in Odaka Yoga, Yoga Therapy and Hatha Yoga/Yin Yoga.
The concept of her practice is “Live Centered, Liquefy Your Limits, Embrace The Power,” which finds inspiration by observing the movement of the ocean and its waves. This beautiful flowing yoga style allows living centered in the middle of chaos. During Melania's classes, students are encouraged to pay attention to their bodies, keeping eyes open rather than closed to remain conscious of the outside world. She calls her classes an instrument to live a real life, a dynamic mediation rather than isolation. Her goal is to allow her students to discover the potential hidden within and unlock it, helping them realise that once they lift the self-imposed image, transformation happens.

Suspended in time, this corner of Tuscany is a timeless treasure. The inescapable first impression of the 700-hectare estate is nestled in the authentic, unspoilt beauty of nature in the heart of Tuscany, tucked between Florence, Siena and Cortona. Carrying a notable history dating back to 1254, the property is now owned by Mr Ferruccio Ferragamo and has since been restored to embody battle wounds of the past, the freshness of the present and a pensive curiosity of the future.
Borro in Tuscan dialect refers to a chasm and was originally a fortress built as part of a strategy to defend against invaders crossing the two Roman roads, Clodia and Cassia.
Known to be the most historic and sumptuous of all properties in Tuscany, Il Borro is an inviting stay for guests to step into an authentic medieval space to exchange technological proliferation and distractions for disconnectedness, relaxation and internal peace.
