Il Melograno, Puglia, Italy
With over 400 years of history amassed behind the burly, powder-white walls, curls of trellised Bougainvillea drape along the archways. Century-old olive trees dot around the estate grounds, a symbol of welcome from Il Melograno. This traditional countryside estate is also known as a ‘Masseria’, a distinctive style in the region of Puglia. This is the only property of its kind that once housed an aristocratic family. Preserving historical integrity through centuries, relics of Apulia culture are expressed through the approaches to wellness.
Further along, citrus groves and terraced rows of garden blooms sit in neat groups to add character to this fable space. Providing a comforting environment for daily activities, exercises and classes, each morning will begin with an Iyengar yoga class with our yoga expert, Giuseppe Intermite. Meditation will shortly follow to help guests slow their rhythm, an opportunity to align the mind with the body.
Go awry and explore the furtive depths and grooves of the local region through additional activities. A 15 km Nordic coastal Walking that includes the exploration of at least three marine grottos with pre-historical remains, a biking tour around the local grounds ending with a unique beach-style lunch, a healthy cooking class using local organic ingredients followed by a gourmet dinner and a visit to Alberobello, famed for the iconic sightings of trulli and to the famous whitewashed city, Ostuni will also be part of the experience and included in this programme.
Reenergise and sensitise the tastebuds with dishes of traditional Apulian cuisine, prepared fresh on a daily basis. Daily gourmet healthy meals draw inspiration from the estate gardens and the natural beauty that surrounds the property. Seasonality is the key principle in the Il Melograno kitchen.
With the destination being nothing short of spectacular, enjoy seclusion and privacy without feelings of isolation. Il Melograno is the primary key-holder to nurturing personal wellbeing but will also satisfy the adventure spirit with plenty of opportunities to discover the historical dimensions and sweeping landscapes. At the end of this programme, feel invigorated and revitalised with a heart full of treasurable moments and memories.
Giuseppe Intermite believes that Iyengar Yoga is a great tool for personal development of all ages. His teaching style is based on clear, simple instructions and the belief that anyone and everyone can access yoga. He is firm and direct yet playful and delicate so that students can enjoy the practice. Giuseppe teaches yoga in the tradition of B.K.S. Iyengar, who has developed an innovative approach to classical hatha yoga. Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment while developing strength, stamina, flexibility and balance. Healthcare experience as a Shiatsu Practitioner provides Guiseppe with knowledge of the body's anatomy. With over 18 years of practice and 12 years of teaching, Giuseppe holds a 400h Teacher Training at the Italian Association of Iyengar Yoga and continues his studies, making regular trips to India to develop his knowledge on philosophy, pranayama and meditation. Giuseppe will provide a clear demonstration, explanation and individual correction and adjustment when necessary. Expect classes to include an excellence of technique and sequencing, moving through a safe, methodical progression of yoga postures.
